Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' and Speaker Devraj Ghimire convened today to discuss strategies aimed at resolving the current parliamentary impasse. The purpose of the meeting was to find a way to resume the obstructed parliamentary proceedings.

Held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, the meeting saw PM Dahal expressing his commitment to facilitating the smooth functioning of the parliament. He pledged to take proactive measures to address the situation and foster an environment where parliamentary activities can continue unhindered.

"I am committed to resuming parliamentary operations. It is imperative that we collaborate and swiftly reach a consensus. I will also engage with the leader of the main opposition party to explore viable solutions," Prime Minister Dahal emphasized during the meeting.

The main opposition party, CPN (UML), has been causing disruptions in the parliamentary sessions since July 26, pressing for the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate a recent gold smuggling scandal.

Speaker Ghimire raised the urgency of taking immediate steps to restore normalcy in parliamentary proceedings. He highlighted the negative repercussions of the ongoing obstruction, emphasizing that lawmakers require the platform to address vital issues, including natural disasters. He further noted that the disruption sends a negative signal to the general public and underlined the importance of earnest dialogue between ruling and opposition parties to overcome the deadlock.

One of the repercussions of the parliamentary halt has been the interruption of the legislative process, including the inability to elect leaders for the parliamentary committees. Speaker Ghimire shared his efforts in pursuing political consensus to resume parliamentary activities, expressing his concern that these efforts have yet to yield tangible results.
